What If It Was Easy? 3 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Work

Revitalize Your Museum Education Career with Simple, Effective Strategies

Spring is in the air, and just like nature, it's time for us to grow and bloom!

I've been on a journey, balancing PhD life with family changes, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. But, as the seasons change, so does my capacity to dive back into what I love most - supporting museum educators.

Lately, I've been reflecting on how we can simplify our work, make it more joyful, and avoid burnout.

In this episode, you'll discover three tips to embrace the spring energy and rejuvenate your passion for museum education!

Three Tips for Embracing Springtime Energy in Your Career

1. Avoid a Full-On Systems Reset

It's tempting to overhaul everything when you're feeling stuck, but sometimes, the best approach is to work with what you already have. I've learned to avoid the trap of productive procrastination by sticking to the systems I've set up, tweaking them as needed without starting from scratch.

2. Simplify, Simplify, Simplify

Ask yourself, What am I over-complicating? Whether it's tracking metrics or producing content, there's often a simpler, more effective way to achieve your goals. By focusing on what truly matters, you can free up time and energy for what you love most about museum education.

3. Embrace Messy Action

Perfection is the enemy of progress. It's better to take small, imperfect steps forward than to wait for the ideal conditions that may never come. Whether it's reaching out to a new demographic or launching a program, start simple and give yourself room to grow.

Let's Grow Together

As the world around us awakens with the promise of spring, let's take this opportunity to breathe new life into our careers and our commitment to museum education. By embracing simplicity, taking action, and allowing ourselves to start small, we can cultivate a fulfilling path that not only benefits us but also the communities we serve. Here's to a season of growth, exploration, and joy in the work we do. Let's make it happen, together!
