From Knowledge to Narrative: Educators and the Changing Museum

by Lisa C. Roberts

As a veteran museum educator, I found this well-researched book to be both enlightening and challenging.

It is a relatively easy read, but packed with information that will help you better understand the motivations behind establishing education work in museums. Any discussion of the role of experience in a museum or conversations around “Disneyfication” or “edu-tainment” should also include references to Roberts’ book.

Framing the work of current education initiatives with the foundations of our profession, Roberts gives context to the choices that museums must make in order to remain relevant while also meeting their missions.

If you want to understand the historical background of the work we do as educators, this is the book for you!
